Vertical Locking Shaft Modification Page

for Airstream Main door Locks 1970-77

Warning: If you take the key out of the Cylinder before you install it in the lock, you will ruin the Cylinder and key set. The Cylinder MUST be put in the lock before removing the key.

The purpose of this page is to show you how to modify your Vertical Locking Shaft so that it will work with our Key and Cylinder 380341

This Key and Cylinder works on about 9 out of 10 locks without any Modification. Does your lock need Modifying? We have been unable to tell from year or model or "where your unit was made". If you order this cylinder and it seems too long then yours needs modifying. What needs to be modified is the Vertical Locking Shaft 682385. Below is a picture of where to find it on your lock.

Below is a picture of what the modified shaft looks like beside a shaft that has not been modified.

Once you have Modified your shaft, the key + cylinder should be latched in. See pictures below.

If your cylinder seems loose, you can use an O-ring to take some of the wobble out. see picture below.

Make sure the key is back in the cylinder before removing the cylinder.

We found this Key + Cylinder, then reengineered it, so that it will work in the 1970 to 1977 main door lock. We felt that the Modification was well worth the effort since the new lock is over $400.00.
